KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – People have donated thousands of dollars to an investment firm in Kings Mountain and have nothing to show for it.

“I want to know why,” said investor Stephen Di Tillio.

Di Tillio, of Charlotte, said the $ 9,000 he invested in D&T Investments was to help him become financially self-sufficient for the first time in his life.

“I had planned to do it myself, and they took it,” he said.

He said some of his colleagues had invested with D&T, including Debbie Hicks, who invested $ 20,000 for her retirement.

“Basically I have to start all over again,” Hicks said.

Several investors said they were receiving monthly earnings reports showing significant gains.

Hicks said D&T employees who were also investors showed off their major purchases, such as an $ 85,000 truck parked outside the company.

“Showing all of us pictures of the $ 35,000 three-wheeler he just bought,” Hicks said.

Di Tillio said that after D&T closed, an employee called him, saying everyone in the office received notice from the owners to return home and the business was closed.

Di Tillio said the employee had not said anything about the money people had invested.

The Kings Mountain Police Department said they were investigating the company but didn’t want to say why.

Kings Mountain Police said they started receiving complaints last week. They haven’t said how many complaints they have but think there are more.

Authorities have said they want anyone with complaints to speak to their investigator.
