TV sitcom legend Betty White dead at 99

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Actress Betty White, whose sassy and ready-to-do charm made her a mainstay of television for more than 60 years, has died. She was 99 years old.

People magazine and the Washington Post reported on White’s death. the People number currently on newsstands marks the 100th birthday of the longtime TV and radio star and presents his longevity tips.

His witty style has brought a roster of quirky characters to life spanning more than half a century. They included the eccentric Rose Nylund on “The Golden Girls” and the outspoken Guardian on “Hot In Cleveland”.

She also got laughs with occasional salty one-liners in the 2009 comedy “The Proposal” and the horror parody “Lake Placid”. By popular demand, she hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2011.

In his “SNL” opening monologue, she observed that she was told that a Facebook petition led to her hosting invitation and only subsequently learned what Facebook FB,

has been. “It sounds like a huge waste of time,” she said unmoved.

“Who doesn’t love Betty White?” First Lady Jill Biden reportedly asked when she and President Joe Biden were invited to comment in Wilmington, Delaware, on the news of the actress’s death.

White, born in Oak Park on January 17, 1922 and a Beverly Hills High School graduate, once said that her character Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” could be “sweet” but was “quite a piranha type.” This role earned him two Emmys.

She had two brief marriages before her decades-long union with late game show host Allen Ludden, who died in 1981.
